在国内愿意亲自给别人写推荐信的人很少，一般是些德高望重的老教授或者从国外留学归来的年轻老师。所以大部分中国申请者都是自己以推荐人的口气用英文把推荐信写好，然后再请推荐人签字。在这种情况下，最好先用汉语打个草稿让推荐人看过以后，如果推荐人同意再翻译成英文形式。

对于申请人来说，要用三种不同的口吻推荐自己，所以要注意以下几点：①客观评价自己的成就，避免赞美过度。推荐信应该表明推荐人对于申请者的动机是有一定了解的，并能解释申请者进一步深造的需求。②列举出具体的事例，避免表达意思太泛泛。推荐信中对于申请者的重要素质和能力要求有事例的支持，作为你的教授或者老板，举出你在工作和学习中的具体表现应该也是非常容易的。③转换语言风格和思维角度，这样可以增加推荐信的可信度。对于一些重要的成就和优点进行描述时，应该从推荐人的角度出发，还有就是语言风格上、用词上要注意变换，避免出现自己在自述信中常用的词语和语气，避免三封推荐信出现雷同。④要避免语法、拼写、还有一些明显的用词错误。如果推荐信中出现错误，这对推荐信的作用也是有影响的。⑤推荐信切忌写的过长，一般来说500英文以内比较合适
